I am convinced that a lot of of you have thought at least once a few times about outsourcing. Should you introduce this in your firm? What are the advantages?Outsourcing allows to transfer some functions to a third party so that the firm is able to concentrate on its core activities. Here is a very plain example that can allow to figure out how that functions: company that functions in the area of event management and conferences does not need to have the IT department. IT outsourcing company would not only be satisfactory, but believably even superrior in that situation. The main target is cost cut – it is less expensive to outsource IT specialists, than to have the IT department in the organization. However, we need to keep in mind that that is a greatly streamlined example.
The vast majority of the drawbacks and risks resulting from outsourcing are correlated with poor election of third party. Definitely, the number of profits of outsourcing exceeds the number of deficiences. Firstly, outsourcing could reduce labor costs. The important point is if the firm uses the services of the firm based in the same country or abroad. It is particularly popular in the IT sector – many well-known companies possess “their” IT departments outsourced and based in India, where there are plenty of educated people but cheaper cost labor at the same time. Secondly, outsourcing allows you to aim attention at the key processess of your enterprise. For example, if the improvement of recent software would be outsourced, we can focus on key areas, such as acquiring new costumers.
There are also many minor advantages such as possessing an access to a group of professionals that we could not afford to hire otherwise as our employee. At the same time, this allows to increase the quality of services.
Eventually it is worth noting that the word “outsourcing” has become an umbrella term. Not everything which is transferred to a third party can be considered as outsourced. For example – service known as “managed services”.
Although it can be often considered as some kind of outsourcing, this term emphasises business purpose, that goes far beyond the cost savings. Therefore, it is worth to recall, that even though outsourcing is a very wide phrase, not everything could belong to this “category”.
